Principal of Gerard Lee Architects elected to 2009 Board of Directors of AIA East Bay Chapter.
Oakland, CA, United States, 10/30/2008 –
Gerard Lee, AIA LEED AP was recently elected to the 2009 American Institute of Architects East Bay Chapter Board of Directors. He had recently served as the chair for the Young Architect Forum of the AIA EB for two years (2007 & 2008)and which tenure was ending. As an architect committed to the profession, he believes that being an active member of the AIA expresses his commitment and passion for architecture. Being actively involved, participating and volunteering for available leadership positions provides an avenue to serve his fellow architects. As a rookie Board of Director member, he is honored and humbled by the responsibilities of the position and by the trust shown through election by fellow members of the profession.
Over the past couple of years he has spent time and energy growing the EB YAF into a committee that serves its constituency (architects licensed 10 years and under) by providing meaningful and relevant events. When the YAF EB chapter held its meeting in late 2006, there were only 4 attendees. Today the EB YAF has a Google Group presence online with 51 members and is growing. Topics cover the range of architecture from changes in Codes to referring good engineers or contractors. Monthly YAF events have range the gamut of Code seminars, social events, site visits, LEED for homes, sustainability, a panel discussion on Zero Energy Buildings, business management, professional liability and work shops for ConnectEd high school pathways program.
His motivation for the YAF was to champion the needs of Young Architects and help ensure that the AIA remains the voice of the profession. Seeking a position on the board would allow him to help more architects and broaden his horizons. He will continue to reach out to architects regardless of their affiliation or non-affiliation with the AIA and as a minority is aware that he has a role to play among the under represented groups within the profession.
Gerard Lee, AIA NCARB LEED AP is the founding principal of Gerard Lee Architects. A sustainable design firm that champions “green” design through their mission statement, “Better Communities Through Sustainable Design.” A mandate that requires the desire and motivation to promote sustainability on projects because of the effect buildings have on our global climate. Participating within the AIA, highlights the firm's commitment to leadership within the profession and staying involved within the community. The firm is a Bay Area certified Green Business.
