This page focuses on Innovation & Design Process and its corresponding credits.
The intent was to create and avenue to recognize innovative design strategies that
may not be reflected within the credits provided by LEED. Note that not all green buildings are LEED certified.
The 2007 AIA COTE top ten award winning Global Ecology Research Center in Stanford, CA displays a number of
innovative design features that are sustainable but the project chose not to undergo LEED certification.
Presently you can earn innovative points by surpassing the requirements of certain LEED credits. These are outlined within
the reference manuals and your LEED Administrator should be able to tell you which credits apply.
Presently, use of carbon neutral materials will also help the project obtain an innovative credit.
The project will obtain an ID credit for utilizing a LEED accredited professional as a principal member of the project team.
Both LEED NC and LEED CS have 5 possible points in the Innovation & Design Process category.
Innovation & Design Process:
No prerequisites, 2 credits = 5 possible points
ID Credit 1.1 - 1.4 Innovation in Design:
Requires documentation to describe the the propose design solution, how it exceeds the current requirements,
demonstrate compliance and strategies to meet the requirements.
ID Credit 2 LEEDŽ Accredited Professional:
One principal member of project team should be a LEED accredited professional.
