Gerard Lee, AIA LEED AP
is an alumnus of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with over
12 years of architectural experience in the design and production of Education, Resort,
Residential, Commercial and Community architecture. As a LEED accredited professional and proponent of "green"/ sustainable design practices,
he brings a strong sense of commitment, drive and creative passion to every project.
Having lived in tropical climates for over 20 years, he is familiar with
tropical climate design and regional vernacular architecture. Paradoxically, his years of working
at a firm reknowned for ski resorts has given him extensive snow country design expertise. This ability to adapt to
different climates and ecosystems allows him to design sustainable buildings that are more in tune with their surrounding environments.
He approaches all projects holistically and believes that proper site analysis enables a design to be fine tuned and tailored to
respond to its site.
He recently lead the design of two sustainable projects (the Bay Leaf Exhibit Kitchen and the LEED Registered Farmhouse)
utilizing alternative construction methods and developed a prototype sustainable fire station
as part of a design competition. He is currently a LEED administrator consultant on 4040 Campbell Ave & Plaza Los Olivos projects.
He was the Project Manager (at the Associate level at BSA architects) for the new Crested Butte Town Center,
Slopeside @ Spruce Peak (LEED registered), the new La Purisma Mission State Historic Park Visitors Center,
new Diablo Valley College Bookstore, Robert Livermore Community
Center, and the No. 17 & 18 Dublin Fire Stations.
Gerard's work on public sector projects has gained him valuable experience with the Division of State Architect (DSA),
Essential Services Facilities and the State Fire Marshal.
Highly adept with computer
information systems, CAD (Computer Aided Design), 3D modeling and animation, he has been
utilized as an expert beta & alpha tester of upcoming software.
Gerard believes in the value of educating future architects and teaches at Diablo Valley College as an
architecture/ construction
instructor. In addition, he contributes his time to local high school students who seek guidance about future careers
in architecture and has also been invited as a guest critic for 4th & 5th year design students from Cal Poly.
He is presently the 2007- 2008 Chair of the Young Architects Forum for the AIA East Bay chapter.
